LIIAR analysis

Front Cover and Contents page
Language
·         My magazine will need a Masthead, this needs to be a short but memorable and this should be a dominant icon that people will notice when they see the magazine. The contents page will also need a title somewhere on the page.
·         I will need a main image for my magazine, this will have to take up most of the page and it has to be a medium close up. The picture must have someone who can clearly be seen and should be making eye contact with the audience. The contents page will also need to feature images on it as well.
·         I need a colour scheme for my magazine, rather than just choosing random colours, the overall look of the magazine will look better if I have a set colour scheme of two or three colours. The colour scheme will also need to be the same for the contents page in order to keep the same theme throughout my magazine.
·         I should have small thumbnail images that shouldn’t draw any attention away from the main image; these images should be relevant to other articles that are featured on the front of my magazine. The contents page could have a few different sized images depending on the importance of the article, but all of the images, like on the front page, will have to be relevant to the article they are for.
·         Anchorage.
·         Price and Bar code, however I have decided that my magazine will be free so I will not be needed a price or bar code on it. The contents page will also not need a price or bar code on it.
·         The front cover of my magazine must be appealing and the articles on the front cover need to make people want to read the magazine. If the front page is appealing, the content list will also need to be, I need to carry it on throughout the magazine so that people will want to carry on reading it.
·         I could include competitions and prizes on the front of the magazine to get people’s attention and make them want to read it. If I include competitions and prizes then on the Contents page I will have to mention them somewhere so people will know where to find them.
·         The main image on my magazine must have an article to go with it, so they both must be relevant to each other. Any articles that have images on the contents page will also have to be relevant to one another.
Institution
I have decided to produce a magazine for Wyke College so the students at the college would be the people who make the magazine.
Ideology
I want to give a good impression of the students at the college in the magazine so that if anyone outside of the college saw the magazine they would get a good impression of the college. Also I want the magazine to be quite fun, but also show the work side of Wyke and that the students can still achieve good grades and have fun at the same time, this will give a good impression of the college by showing both side to life at college. The magazine I am creating needs to show Wyke as a positive place to be, so the students are interested but also so that if someone who doesn’t go to Wyke saw it then they would think Wyke is a good college. To keep a good impression of the collage them theme of this will have to be all throughout the magazine not just on the front page.
Audience
The target audience will be students at Wyke as they will be given the magazine so it will be aimed at them so that they will want to read it.
Representation
I want to represent students at wyke in a positive way, as then they will be happy with the magazine. If I showed them in a negative way the students wouldn’t be very interested in the magazine. I want to show the fun side to Wyke but also the grades and how hard people work to achieve as well. I need to create a good balance all the way through the magazine of the fun side and the work side in college in order to attract the students attention and so that they will read the magazine.

The Brief

Using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student medium close up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of DTP.
